Junior Racing

Junior Development Race Team

Program is SOLD OUT for the 20/21 season.

The Timber Ridge Junior Development Team is a competitive and fun program for athletes between 5 and 14 years old. We’ve designed our program to introduce young skiers to ski racing and to provide goals and encouragement as they progress. We offer well over 25 hours of on hill training/instruction as we focus on the fundamentals of skiing and ski racing. Our program will help to improve the skills of a young skier for participation in High School and Nastar® racing and will help make them excellent recreational free skiers. Alpine Skiing is a sport that can be enjoyed throughout a lifetime, and Junior Racing sets an excellent foundation for them to build upon.

What are the requirements for Junior Racing?

Athletes must be between 5 and 14 years old as of January 1st. No race experience is necessary.

The 5 thru 8 year olds practice on Lumberjack and Sycamore. These athletes just need to be able to turn, stop and ski independently on Green terrain.

If your child is unable to ride the lift independently, a parent will need to be there to ride along.

The 9 thru 14 year olds practice on Oak. No race experience is necessary however, these athletes must be able to ski Blue terrain comfortably. An assessment may be required prior to registration. A skier not yet ready for race training on Oak will be given alternative skill development options outside of racing.

All racers are required to wear helmets at all JDT practices and Invitational Races.

High School Racing Preparation

Yes, ski racing can be a High School sport. Our coaches will teach your future HS racer the finer points of the Slalom and Giant Slalom events. The Timber Ridge Junior Development Team is a fun and excellent way to prepare for High School Racing.

When are Practices and Races?

Races and most practices are on the weekend. We practice every Saturday and Sunday in January and February when there is not a race and weather conditions permit. We encourage you to take advantage of every race and practice opportunity, but we know that you are busy so we are flexible in this regard.

Saturdays: 9:30 am – 11:00 am and Sundays: 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm unless there’s a race

We host Nastar® and an invitational JDT race right at Timber Ridge

We also compete in several invitational JDT ski races regionally
